Stim gives users 10-25Gbps internet speeds and stim pays for bandwidth. In some regions, Stim pays as much as $0.13 per GB for bandwidth. In one case, a single customer who installed a download manager which hosted files to others, cost us thousands of dollars in minutes seeding/hosting files to others at 25Gbps without knowing it.
While some platforms throttle internet speeds to <1Gbps to help solve this problem, we want people to have the lowest latency possible, so we instead added data caps which reset each billing cycle. These data caps are set to be higher than anyone could achieve playing games and streaming 2K 120FPS. Those using the platform properly should never need to worry about data caps.
Typically when someone hits the data cap it is due to them using torrent applications and or download managers. People make mistakes and often don’t know how much data installed applications are using. With 25Gbps internet connectivity, this can happen very quickly. For this reason we also added warnings which will appear in the CloudPC when it detects a large amount of non-stop upload (not download) traffic over a 10 minute period.
If you have consumed all available data and wish to extend it before your next billing cycle, you can either:
- Run your existing Subscription Cloud PC on Pay As You Go with a 30% subscriber discount until your next billion period and your data usage is reset to 0.
- Purchase a Data Plan Add-On subscription by visiting: https://stim.io/data_plans.
